Its requirements, in the words of its App Store listing, are “macOS 26 or later on a Mac with Apple silicon.” That is the whole list of devices, for the Mac App Store version and the download from this website alike.
Why is PDF Textfix only for the Mac?
Because it is built on the Mac’s own frameworks. PDFKit, the Mac’s PDF framework, shows your pages; Core Text, the Mac’s font system, draws the line you are editing in the document’s font and finds a character that font lacks among the fonts installed on your Mac. There is no other version.
Editing also stays on the Mac. Your files never leave it: PDF Textfix reads only the files you open and writes only where you save, and the Mac App Store version goes online only to confirm a purchase.
Does PDF Textfix run on an Intel Mac?
No, not even one that runs macOS 26. Apple’s compatibility page lists the Macs that take macOS Tahoe 26: “You can install macOS Tahoe 26 on any of these Mac models.” A few of them have Intel processors, such as the MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) and the iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, 2020). PDF Textfix is built for Apple silicon only, so on those Macs it does not open, whatever their macOS version.
To see which kind you have, open About This Mac from the Apple menu. In Apple’s words: “On a Mac with Apple silicon, About This Mac shows an item labeled Chip, followed by the name of the chip.” On an Intel-based Mac, the item is labeled Processor instead. The download page lists the requirements, and support answers questions before you buy.
What can I use on Windows, an iPad or an iPhone?
Another PDF editor, chosen by what its vendor says it runs on. Two of the editors this site compares name Windows:
- Adobe Acrobat. Adobe’s requirements page covers “Acrobat Studio, Acrobat Pro, and Acrobat Standard on Windows and macOS.” PDF Textfix and Adobe Acrobat quotes its font rule and its prices.
- PDFgear. Its guide on fonts says: “PDFgear offers a free PDF text editor that works on Windows and Mac computers.” PDF Textfix and PDFgear has the rest of its facts.
For an iPad or an iPhone, check the App Store listing of the editor you are considering: each listing names the devices it supports. Whatever the device, look at what the editor does with the text already on a page and with the document’s fonts; the comparison of PDF editors sets them against the same questions. When you are back at a Mac, how to edit text in a PDF on Mac shows the PDF Textfix way.
More questions about where PDF Textfix runs
Can I open a file edited on my Mac on my iPhone or a Windows PC?
Yes. PDF Textfix saves an ordinary PDF that any viewer opens. Only the editing happens on the Mac.
Is the Mac App Store version different from the one on this website?
Both run on the same Macs and edit the same way. Mac App Store or direct download explains how buying, updates and refunds differ.
Does PDF Textfix run on macOS 15 Sequoia or earlier?
No. It needs macOS 26 or later. If your Mac has Apple silicon and is on Apple’s list for macOS Tahoe 26, update it first; then the download page has both versions.
